Long Exposure Photos
September 1st, 2009I took some long exposure photos last night. I still need a lot of practice, but these are my best efforts so far.
This first one is the street light just in front of our building. It is a 60 second exposure, which is what gives the look of the “rays” coming out from the centre of the light.

Mr. Moon is taken with a much shorter exposure. Because the moon is far away, the longer the exposure the fuzzier it gets. This was the sharpest of the shots I did take last night. It takes lots of experimentation.
This is another 60 second exposure, but with a neutral density filter on the lens, as it wasn’t very dark out yet.
I had seen this next type of photo done and wanted to give it a try. I set my exposure for 30 seconds and then after about 15 seconds, I walked into the picture and then stood very still. This gives a very “ghostly appearance”. (Had I known it was actually going to work – I probably would have tried to look a little better…LOL)

I really like these photos. As for the moon, don’t forget that it’s moving, too. That’s why it gets fuzzier with longer exposures. I’ve tried Mr. Moon before, too.
I was going to say that the moon fuzzies is also probably because it’s moving, hehe.
I love the first photo
Very cool.
I *love* that first one. Well done!
Beautiful moon photo! Wish I could take such pics :O
Very nice! I love the moon photos.
I absolutely love the first one! That one is for framing for sure..
Ghost kinnigirl; i already shiver and shudder of fear. I certainly hope you are related to Casper, the friendly ghost.
First photo definetly has my preference, the light really draws you in.
Of course I would like the Moon photo, but your first one is beautiful!! So much so that I would love to copy it and save it…with your permission of course.
